Lewis County Herald: Letter to the Editor

Lewis County Herald

Dear Editor,

In response to Melanie S. Kupfer’s, (HCBS Services Coordinator) Letter to the Editor regarding the unprecedented raid on a former Presidents home by the FBI, I would like to quote some facts first and then ask a question.

‘Even if President Trump took classified records, that isn’t a crime. The president, all presidents have the inherent right to declassify any record he wants in any manner he wants, regardless of any otherwise pertinent statute or regulation that applies to everyone else’. -Mike Davis, President Article 3 Project, the U.S. Supreme Court case 1988 – Department of the Navy v. Egan, and the U.S. Constitution, Article II, § 2 — ‘his authority to classify and control access to information bearing on national security…flows primarily from this constitutional investment of power in the President, and exists quite apart from any explicit congressional grant’.

Every President takes mementos and records home with them and they do not pack those boxes themselves. Every President is provided Federal funding for a home office and a secure space for those records that are additionally secured by the Secret Service.

In light of these facts and more, I agree with Senator Blackburn in her concern over an unprecedented and unconstitutional/illegal raid on a former President’s home in what appears to be a very political charade to intimidate not president Trump, but to intimidate those who work for him, may work for him and his 74+ million supporters.

But, I especially find it concerning that Ms. Kupfer signed with her job title appearing to indicate that she works for the State of Tennessee as a Service Coordinator for the tax payer funded Commission on Aging and Disability -Home and Community Based Services. If this is true, and since there is no disclaimer to the contrary in her public letter, I am wondering if Ms. Kupfer’s opinion is also the opinion of the State of Tennessee or at least the opinion of her Department and how that might affect Tennessee residents who voted for and support President Trump?
