WASHINGTON — The Article III Project today announced a five-figure digital ad buy targeting Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) that will run in their respective home states for their hypocrisy on racial and gender diversity in the federal judiciary ahead of their roles in the upcoming hearing for President Joe Biden’s nominee to the Supreme Court, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. The ads will highlight their voting record on women and minority judicial nominees under the prior two Republican presidents.
“Democrats talk a big game about diversity in the judiciary, so much so that they have made race and gender a prerequisite for President Biden’s first Supreme Court nomination. Dozens of Democratic senators, including Senators Schumer, Durbin, and Whitehouse, consistently voted against women and minority nominees from Presidents Trump and Bush. Democrats don’t care about diversity; they only care about power. Understanding their hypocrisy ahead of this Supreme Court fight is crucial to the public debate,” said Mike Davis, Article III Project Founder and President.
Article III Project released research last month detailing the poor voting records of Senators Schumer, Durbin, and Whitehouse on women and minority judicial nominees appointed by Republican presidents. For President Trump’s appellate court nominees specifically, Schumer voted against 95% of women and minority nominees, Durbin voted against 81%, and Whitehouse—who is a member of an all-white beach club—voted against 71%. Davis also wrote about the Democrats’ hypocrisy on diversity in the courts in an op-ed in Newsweek last month.
The Article III Project (A3P) was founded by veteran GOP operative and attorney Mike Davis, who, after helping win the Senate confirmation battles of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, developed the reputation as a “take-no-prisoners conservative eager to challenge the left with hardball tactics,” as reported in The New York Times. A3P defends constitutionalist judges, punches back on radical assaults on judicial independence (like court-packing) and opposes judicial and other nominees who are outside of the mainstream.
Davis previously served as Chief Counsel for Nominations to Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary and led the Senate confirmation of Justice Brett Kavanaugh and a record number of circuit court judges.
